BT offers cheapest home and mobile broadband bundle
BT has launched what it says is the UK’s cheapest mobile and home broadband combination.
BT Home & Mobile Broadband costs from only £7.78 a month for three months then £15.65 a month - plus the one-off cost of your mobile broadband dongle. And it includes up to 8Mbps home broadband, and a 3.5G mobile broadband dongle for 1GB mobile broadband with broadband download speeds of up to 7.2Mb (the dongle connects you to the mobile network).
So the monthly 1GB mobile broadband cost is FREE (a saving of £10 a month)!
How do you get BT Home & Mobile Broadband?
- Sign up to a BT Total Broadband package (BT’s home broadband packages) on an 18 month contract.
- You just pay a one-off cost for the mobile broadband dongle (the price of the dongle varies according to the BT Total Broadband package you select).
- You’ll then get 1GB BT Mobile Broadband FREE for 18 months.

I’m not clear what Mobile Broadband is. Presumably the dongle plugs into my laptop and, once set up I can access the Internet wherever there is a signal.
I’m already signed up for 18 months with one of the BT Broadband options.
I can access the Internet at home wirelessly via the Hub. My laptop has built-in WiFi for this.
I need to access the Internet 24 miles away when I’m working.
How does Mobile Broadband achieve this and do I still need a dongle ?
Does it involve my mobile phone [Orange Network}?
I can’t seem to find this information on your page.

Hi Alan
What you have with your BT Broadband is called Wireless or Wi-fi access. This means you can access your fixed BT Broadband via a wireless router from a range of 100 yards or so.
If you want to access the internet outside of your home you have two choices:
1) You will need to be in a place that has wi-fi (sometimes called wi-fi hotspots) These you normally have to pay for as you use them and are located in places like coffee shops, hotels, train stations and airports.
2) For more regular users then mobile broadband is the way to go. Mobile broadband uses the mobile phone network to give you a broadband connection. The mobile broadband ‘dongle’ contains a broadband modem and a mobile phone SIM card all enclosed and lets you access the internet from anywhere where there is a mobile phone signal.
There probabaly is a way that you could hook up your laptop to your current mobile phone through something like bluetooth - but in my case I just bought a dedicated mobile broadband dongle and service.
